Although Google Maps ist still opening it\u2019s functions to iPhone user there are better tools outside to navigate offline through the world as photographer.

The Pocket Earth App<\/strong> is my tool of choice when it comes to offline navigation. Open Street Map<\/strong> is more accurate and especially if your are into hiking Pocket Earth is the App on your\u00a0iPhone.<\/p>\n

Research at home is far more easy in the Google Maps environment at the moment!<\/p>\n

But how\u00a0will you get your Google MyPlace<\/strong> Data from a browser (not only MacOS<\/strong>) in your Pocket Earth App?<\/p>\n

While doing a small research on Google I\u00a0frustrated finding a solution. So please excuse the following keywords. Google listen to me, if you are\u00a0asked one of the following questions:<\/p>\n

How convert Google KML or KMZ Data from your Mac OS to GPX XML for the App Pocket Earth?<\/h3>\n

Here is the answer:<\/p>\n

Download GPSBabelFE http:\/\/www.gpsbabel.org\/<\/a>. (Don\u2019t forget to paypal\u00a0them some money if you like the App)<\/p>\n

In your browser (USE GOOGLE CHROME for some reasons it won’t work in Safari):
\n– Go to you to Google Maps\/myMaps\/\u201eNameOfYourMap\u201c:<\/p>\n

Open \u201eNameOfYourMap\u201c in MyMaps:<\/p>\n

\"Convert<\/p>\n

– Press the three dots right beside the title with \u201eNameOfYourMap\u201c:<\/p>\n

\n– Export to KML\u00a0(USE GOOGLE CHROME for some reasons it won’t work in Safari)<\/p>\n

A dialog is opened:
\n– OptIn: KML instead of KMZ (you will loose some formatting)<\/p>\n

\"Convert<\/a> Download!\u00a0(USE GOOGLE CHROME for some reasons it won’t work in Safari)<\/p>\n

Convert the NameOfYourMap\u201c.kml file to GPX XML file using GPSBabelFE. Choose the settings as you see it:<\/p>\n

\"Convert<\/a><\/p>\n

Your converted \u201eNameOfYourMap\u201c.gpx file have to find its way in the iPhone: Send it to your Dropbox or to yourself via Email.<\/p>\n

There: Open the file and lots of code is coming up.<\/p>\n

Find the send to function (tap on the code, upper right corner, there it is: The Little square with the up arrow in it).<\/p>\n

\n– Copy\u00a0the file in the Pocket Earth App. Choose import and show:<\/p>\n

IMPORTANT NOTE: Disable “Als einen Pfad importieren” if you want to display all waypoint at once on the map!!!<\/p>\n

You can find your imported data in the “import function” of the Pocket Earth App.<\/p>\n
