Why I joined 500px!

Post placeholder image

It is a long time that I was quite active in an online photo community. I hate all those buddy habits in these closed systems.

Today I started an account on 500px. Lets give it a try.

There are some reasons that I choose 500px:

  • Good friends told me that it is awesome and different.
  • 500px respects my work and don’t wants to much in terms of copyright.
  • You can make a connection to Flattr.

The last point gave me the impulse to start again.

Please read this blog post, why I love Flattr.

It is a good sign, that a community allowed the connection and the usage of Flattr in their eco system.

What do you think about 500px? What should I be aware of?

I actually did put that up as a question on your 500 px page. Funny 🙂
It looks a lot like Lolland, or even Juelsminde in Jutland 🙂
Regardles where it is taken – it is just up my road, that image. I love the low key, and the green very much.

I completely agree to Torstens comment, but with the wast followership on your hands, your amazing images should have no problem getting a very high pulse, making it visible to even more people.
Looking forward to seeing your images over at 500 px.

    Cheers

Oh well – in regard to the buddy system that you hate and really, all other things, 500px is not different from any other online photo communit.

You bring your huge followership from twitter and g+ with you as a bonus (that you worked for, so kudos ;-)) so you won’t have any problems with visibility there like in any other community that you choose.

But the buddy problem will be always there. On 500px there is so much traffic – uploaded photos whizz past the first not few, no, they whizz past the first dozen “fresg” pages so fast, no one will basically look at them if not your followers.

500px promotes a fast buddy system in that you basically need some fast early likes and votes so that the photo will gain a high pulse fast and rank in the “upcoming” and “popular” pages to have any chance to be seen by someone else.

The only thing I’ll give 500px: they still have a very nice site design (was better in former times).

Apart from that, each community has it downfalls.

Wo müsste denn der Flattr Button sein…?

Ich habe ihn bei mir aktiviert, sehe ihn aber weder bei Deinem noch bei meinen Fotos.

be aware of their “sales” option. I am because they define the price and the percentage going to the photographer is not that good.
